Edgar is a biologist, toxicologist, and environmental scientist with a mission to improve environmental and public health, ecosystem integrity, environmental awareness, and stewardship to create a circular and sustainable plastics economy that is harmonized with the environment, economy, and people.

Plastic is continuously released from business and residential sectors all over the world. In the environment, plastic degradation can become problematic because macroplastic becomes microplastic (1 μm to 5 mm) and nanoplastic (<100 nm). At these sizes, plastic is small enough to enter food webs, and through the diet, impose long-term effects on human, organism, and ecosystem health. Plastic pollution is ubiquitous , present in soil, sediment, air, fresh, and salt water, making it an important market target in the recycling industry. According to our world in data, 2023, only 9% of all plastic was recycled worldwide, suggesting that plastic pollution will continue, and new innovations are necessary to divert plastic from entering ecosystems.

Innovations are necessary because plastic is already a problem. Pollution from microplastics and nanoplastics are a leading environmental and public health concern globally. In humans for example, microplastics have been found in the brain, lungs, blood, placenta, breast milk, heart, liver, kidneys, and testicles, suggesting a call-to-action and a significant advancement to the plastic problem. Based on current statistics, our worldwide and Canadian plastic economy appears to be unsustainable because only 9% of the plastic is recycled, most either landfilled, or directed to another waste management stream.

Sub-zero is a for-profit recycling facility located in Saskatoon, SK Canada providing services that are in-line with a circular green economy in ecosystem leadership. By taking a unique recycling approach, I will aim to reduce plastic waste significantly so that Canada can get closer to a circular plastics economy. With the launch of the app, Sub-zero intends to operate within the niche of conscious consumers creating environmental stewards that implement greener alternatives and sustainability practices that align with the objectives of a circular economy.

At Sub-zero, innovative methods to intercept 90 to 100% of the plastics generated in homes and businesses are considered to fulfill the Canadian plastic zero-waste plan by 2040. Our goal is to bring Canada closer to a plastic circular economy that is sustainable and encourages individual accountability. We will be committed to excellent service and change the plastic world in our favor by promoting sustainable practices that aligns with our human nature, creates environmental stewardship, minimize future environmental and public health impacts, and contributes to earth’s healing
